  • While in the market for a new-to-me car early in this year, Tempe Honda was recommended to me by my co-worker (and when the Head of New Business Development tells you that a dealership has honest salesmen, you tend to listen). I went in, fell in LOVE with a 2003 Jag that was for sale at a very good price, bought it, and drove it home the next day. The salesperson WAS wonderful and my experience at this point was great. I took it for a test drive that night (a cold night in February) and my biggest concern was "does the AC work?" (Hey - I spent one summer here in Phx without AC and Never. Again.) He assured me that it did, and I turned it on to test it. It blew cold from the start - not surprising given how cold it was outside. Here's the thing - the warmer it got outside, the warmer the AC air would blow. Took it in to have it checked once those lovely Arizona temps got up to triple digits, and found out the AC compressor is shot. Went back to the service area at Tempe Honda, and was told "What do you want us to do? We won't fix it for free. YOU must've broken in; it worked when it left here with you." (And yes, those are ACTUAL quotes from throughout our conversation.) When I asked how I could've broken something I hadn't used, I was shrugged at. The gentleman did say he'd "try and give me a better price" than I'd been previously quoted after I asked him about it blowing cold when cold, etc, but the price he gave me ended up being several hundred dollars higher than Greulich's (seriously?). He "spoke to his manager," or so I was told, but the manager never came out to address the issue with me for the entire 40 minutes I sat in the dealership. I also asked to see the service records, and needless to say, I don't have them. (He did read a few things off to me, but -nothing- to do with the AC.) So, here I am - dropped 10k on a car without a working AC, and no help from the dealership. My guess is that because the AC blows cold when it's cold out - and it was cold when it was brought in - no further tests were done. Had they been, perhaps that AC compressor would've been fixed, I wouldn't be hot and utterly miserable, and I wouldn't be leaving a poor review for the dealership. I do plan on mailing a letter to the GM - and above, if I don't hear back - so I'm cautiously optimistic that I'll soon be able to come back here and tell the intrawebs how happy I am that my problem was fixed properly.
