  • my first visit to Distrito - a definite 4.5 stars. the second time around, 3.5. but the second time around was on cinco de mayo... so.... maybe that was the problem. the service can be a bit spotty.... but the food. oh the glorious food. the huarache de hongos... is my fave dish. but the second time around, it was a bit burnt. when cooked right... it is AMAAAAAAAAZING!!!! the distrito margarita packs a nice punch. i may have gotten a tad bit tipsy.... but, i think my fave drink was the paloma. anything that has to do w/ grapefruit jarritos is my kind of drink! we've tried the yellowtail ceviche, the duck queso fundido, the nachos (the vegetarian one/Ignacio was much better than the one w/ the steak/encarnacion!), mahi mahi tacos, the esquites, the guac (free w/ a Yelp Check-In!), the mexico city style quesadilla.... all good and recommended with the exception of the esquites. that was just mediocre. the best part was THE DESSERT - el fuerte! omg. the best. chocolate freakin' cake i've ever had. and i don't even like chocolate cake. gahhhhhhhhhh it was so good. (we had this on our first visit, when the husband brought me here for my bday.... and we thought we were getting this for free since our waiter told us that they would give us dessert for my bday.... but alas. we paid for it. but it was still worth it!) i. love. jose garces. he's a freakin' genius and seriously? this food is so good. yes, a bit pricey, but SOOO GOOOOOOD. just don't go on cinco de mayo.
