| - Given the hype and the beautiful pictures posted on instagram, I just had to check this place out. Located on harbour street, right outside UofT, this place is quite popular with students. Waited for about 20min for a table, which isnt too bad on a friday night. The dessert kitchen has a very clean and refreshing decor, lots if greenery and bright lighting.
I came with my bf and another friend, and we ordered mango parfait, taro soft serve in a cup, matcha serradura, polar bear HK style milk tea, papaya milk, and passion sundae (cant remember the name, it was just that memorable)
The item I was most excited about was the matcha serradura, but that excitement soon became disappointment. We were hoping to capture a pic of us gracefully digging into the cake, but to our surprise...it was as hard as a rock. We had to chisel our way just to get a few crumbs, and even then it didnt taste good. At one point I was trying so hard my spoon slipped off to the side and the piece of serradura went flying across the table. A friend of mine actually had to ask the waitress how its suppose to taste like, and was suggested to maybe let it thaw a bit before eating again.
So in the meantime we finished everything else we ordered, the taro soft serve was our favourite hands down. It kinda tasted like taro milk tea but condensed into ice-cream form. The polar bear milk tea was surprising good. We ordered only for the picture but the milk tea was surprisingly strong and delicious. Other than that the rest weren't very memorable.
After maybe 30min or so, we began our conquest of the serradura again. This time, it was indeed easier to scoop with the spoon, but taste wise it was so far from good. It was a little too chalky and the cream was still kinda hard. The fresh fruits on the side was probably my favourite.
All in all, if I was a student again this would probably be a really good hangout/study place when the main focus isn't food. I would almost recommend the serradura just for the confusing taste and the rollercoaster of emotions as you dig your way through.
