| - Overall pretty much the same for all Hilton Garden Inns - staff is friendly and helpful, food is average, amenities are decent. Shuttle is pretty responsive, though the older driver is a bit socially awkward. Normally I'm a Hilton fan, but this was not my best experience.
One elevator was down when I got here. Tonight the 2nd is also down - there are only two. We were ushered into the staff maintenance elevator. I don't really care, but you need a badge to use it, which only staff have. The laundry facilities are down so you can either pay for dry cleaning or hoof it to a laundromat. It's been down all week long!
The lobby is awkward because the main doors are just off Forbes Ave - you know, the address of the hotel and most logical place to enter. But to get to the desk you have to go up two short flights of stairs. With your luggage. Or down one flight, to the elevator that you have to take up one floor to the lobby. No wait, the elevators don't work.
The walls must be pretty thin because you can hear your neighbors well enough that it's annoying (do not get a room with an adjoining door!). My room is near the street and all road noises (sirens, garbage trucks, pedestrians) are unusually easy to hear. My AC unit is gapped a bit from the wall so noise penetrates pretty well. Have to leave the fan running to get any sleep.
I prefer Hilton to other chains, but this is a seriously disappointing stay. I'm only here because it's convenient to my project at UPMC and I can easily walk. I don't want to stay here again.
