  • I did get a good truck for a good deal from Schoepps, but the experience was less than satisfactory. First of all, they were a bit pushy. But I expect that, to an extent. The part that makes me angry is that I now realize they were trying to be underhanded with my loan. From the very start, I informed the salesman that we were pre-authorized from our credit union. I even had a pre-auth account number that I was just given that morning from UWCU. The salesman mentioned several times that we could try going through their financing, just to compare. I made it very clear that I intended to go with the loan from UWCU and was not interested in their financing. When we were ready to purchase, he told us that their financial advisor could process our loan through UWCU, which would mean we could just stay there to complete the transaction. The bank has also told me we could do this, so I was fine with that (especially since it was Saturday afternoon and the bank was closed). I expected to be able to meet with or speak directly to the financial advisor. I was not. Our salesman went back and forth, relaying information in what began to seem like a game of telephone. He first came back with loan terms that were not remotely what UW promised us. He said it was because of the specific vehicle's age, etc., that the UW wasn't able to give us the same interest rate they had indicated this morning. I told him that was not what I was expecting and was unacceptable--I would not be able to purchase the truck with those terms. So he went back to the advisor for a while, then came back and said that we could, in fact, get the original terms we were pre-authorized for. Only then, when we agreed to the loan, were we able to meet with the financial advisor to finish paperwork. Never was I told that the first loan offered was NOT ACTUALLY through UWCU at all. It turns out that they tried putting us through their own financing after we had explicitly and vehemently indicated we were not interested--and after the salesman had indicated we'd be getting the financing we asked for. I wouldn't have even known about it except that I got a letter from THEIR bank today, two weeks later, "rejecting my application" for a loan I already have from a different lender. This confused me, so I checked my credit report and confirmed that there was a hard inquiry from that bank as well as the ones from Schoepps and UWCU that I expected. I do not appreciate that they tried to get me to agree to their financing in such an underhanded way, after my intentions were made clear, and after I gave them paperwork from UWCU with the pre-auth account number to use. For this reason, I would advise anyone buying from them to pay VERY close attention to the loan terms to make sure you are getting what you expect! Or just go somewhere else!
