  • I've stayed at the Ritz-Carlton for a total of about two months over the last year. When you spend that much time at a hotel, you really get to see the good and the bad and how consistent the quality and service they provide is. To that end, I would easily say the Ritz-Carlton is my favorite hotel in Toronto. I've stayed at many others, including a recent stay at the Trump, and the Ritz-Carlton is above every hotel I have ever stayed at in the city, including the other elite, luxury, five-star hotels like the Trump, Four Seasons, etc. What separates it from the others is not decor or quality - all the luxury hotels in the city have their own, unique, luxury decor which is tasteful and elegant in their own way. No, what separates the Ritz-Carlton is service. They truly provide the most reliable, attentive, and exceptional level of service of any hotel I have stayed at in Toronto, and their service is easily in the top five of all the hotels I have ever stayed in around the in world. I know a part of this is due to me being a frequent guest, but most of it really is the way they treat all their guests. It's the little things they do that are noticeable without being overbearing. For example, out of every hotel I have ever stayed at that offered turndown service, the Ritz-Carlton is the only one that got it just right. The mood, music, lighting, etc. is just perfect for turndown service. It's a little example of the many things the hotel and it's staff do to provide the highest quality of service. And in the very, very few occasions where there has been a problem, the hotel has gone out of their way to make up for any inconvenience, no matter how trivial. As far as the other aspects of the hotel, I find the room decor elegant, but more contemporary luxury than trendy, like say, the Trump. Their suites are very well-designed and spacious and even their smaller suite (the Corner Suite) is a generous size. My only complaint with that particular suite is if the living area was a little more spacious. However, the long hallway, large bathroom and very spacious bedroom with phenomenal lake views more than make up for it. The Simcoe Suite is my favorite. It is less of a suite and more of a true, luxury one-bedroom apartment. Also with incredible lake views, it is very spacious, has a generous living room and cozy dining/bar area, magnificent bedroom and master bathroom. The Club level is nice. The food servings are good and make for a good sized breakfast or lunch. The wine and beer selection is diverse, and it's not normally too crowded. It's on the top floor of the hotel and provides beautiful views of the lake. The location is also very central. You're a very short walk from the entertainment district, with a lot of restaurants, bars, clubs, and theatres at your disposal. The Rogers Centre (home of the city's baseball team) and the Air Canada Centre (home of the city's hockey & basketball teams as well as most concerts that come into the city) are also a very short walk away. Two other positive aspects of the hotel is their gym is very large and while I have never personally used it myself, I have heard nothing but great things about their spa. As with every hotel, there are a few areas of the hotel I would say are a little negative. Not 'bad' as much as 'mediocre.' The pool is nice, and the hotel likes to point out that it's considered one of the nicest hotel pools in the city. That may be true, but in general, it's very bland, not overly large, and doesn't provide much of a view of anything. I also feel like the temperature could be a little warmer for an indoor pool. The only other area where I would say the Ritz-Carlton falls short is TOCA - their signature restaurant. The food is good but not great and for the quality, I find it overpriced. Their breakfast buffet is excellent, but I find their lunch and dinner offerings merely average and don't usually eat their for anything other than breakfast. All in all, I have little reservations saying I consider the Ritz-Carlton the best hotel in Toronto and one of my favorite hotels to visit. I know some of their competitors - like the Trump - are the trendier luxury hotels in the city right now, but I would easily stay at the Ritz over anywhere else in Toronto, which is why they are always my first call when I'm coming into town and why if you want a luxury hotel in Toronto with an exceptionally high level of service, they should be your's too.
