Excellent hotel and location....1 star deduction is for the bathroom sink and the front doormen. That's for the unbelievably annoying bathroom faucet fixtures at the sink! I should have taken a picture....it's two extremely round metal knobs with no real grip so it's not the easiest to turn on the hot and cold water at the sink. I can't imagine if you're old or have arthritis because you'd have some difficulty turning on the taps. The front door men here are friendly when they are doing their job but when they are not in the mood to work, which was about 30% of the time. That would include smoking, chatting with friends or whoever while you walk in or out and they are standing right there but choose not to open the door and greet you. Seriously? It's not the Ritz but the hotel is up there and it's service should match. So change those fixtures and have the doormen pay more attention to guests and it's a 5 star for this place.
Otherwise:
- excellent location - you are in the best section of Rue Saint Catherines where all the better shopping is located (including an SAQ Signature Store), 5 mins walk from the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and Concordia University, 10 mins walk from McGill, 5 mins walk from many eateries and bars/nightlife and most importantly 5 min walk from Peel Station if you are taking the metro, a minute away on Maisonneuve is a 24 hr convenience store "Couche Tard" or Macs as we know it in the rest of Canada.
- rooms are extremely clean and spacious.
- bed and pillows are excellent; soft sheets
- bathroom is very spacious with lots of counter space, tub and a stand up shower with good water pressure
- can be a tad noisy if you are on the street side of the hotel but otherwise quiet hotel
- very friendly and helpful front desk staff
- free coffee and tea in the lobby and in your room; free wifi
- $40 flat rate cab to the airport
I would definitely stay here again!
