  • This is my neighborhood park. I have been frequenting this park for years now and I have to say that overall I'm still pretty impressed with it. The park itself consists of the Phoenix Tennis Center (which has 25 lighted outdoor courts and a pro shop), the Washington Activity Center (which has a lighted basketball court, exercise course, and an activity center with classes), and the PetSmart Dog Park. This park also has a playground, pool, ramada and picnic area, restrooms, soccer, lighted softball, and lighted sand volleyball. There is also an outdoor pool area, but that is still under construction. This park is across the street from an elementary school and is adjacent to the local high school. This means that security and police are never far away, making this park more family-friendly and equipped for little league games and for family BBQs. There is an issue with homeless men in the early morning. Often, I can see them "packing up" for the day and headed off to somewhere else. But I've never felt unsafe at this park. There are also a lot of families there so I don't think they feel unsafe either. For the most park, the homeless guys stay off in corners of the park. In the summer there seems to be more there, trying to get out of the sun I guess. I've used the gym at the Washington Activity Center and found it to be the best value in Phoenix at $40.00 for 6 months. New equipment in the gym and hardly anyone uses it. It's really great! I would also go walking with my mom in the evenings and it was always pleasant walking around the park. It is well-maintained and taken care of by City of Phoenix employees. I definitely recommend this park for walking your dog as well. The dog park is nice and is also a nice social place to meet other dog lovers. In the end, I honestly think that this neighborhood is lucky to have such a nice park right in the middle of it. Better than most I've seen nearby. 5-stars overall!
