I've had several rabbits for years, with great resources to learn about their care and diet. We usually get hay from Tranquility Trail in Scottsdale but was out and about our neighborhood when I decided to check out the local feed places for hay just in case.
The younger woman who helped me was very knowledgeable, and I probably would have been quite happy returning to purchase from her. However the gentleman that also helped let me know they have some 'not so good hay' in the back, which can they clarified to be moldy hay, and that they usually break that down to sell in smaller bags for small animals.
Um... no. The younger woman must have realized how dumbfounded I was when he mentioned it and jumped in to say 'no, that's not good for rabbit's stomachs, cows yes but rabbits no.'
The gentleman was very matter of fact about pellets and compressed hay cubes that contain alfalfa, which is not good for adult rabbits, even when I expressed to him that it's not good for my adult rabbit and it's not what I was looking for.
Please do research about what you recommend to rabbit owners, the recommendations made with the moldy hay are just appalling.
