  • BUYER BEWARE: We wrote Designer Shades a five-star review in 2014 when it was under different ownership. Since then, they've undergone multiple ownership changes and this IS NOT the same place that it was back then. In February 2017, my wife and I went to Designer Shades for the same teeth whitening service we had back in 2014 - with no complications. As we were leaving the office this time, we noticed that both of our lips and gums were beginning to SWELL and blister. The technician told us it was normal, to drink water and ice it, and it would be gone within a few hours. By the next morning, our mouths were FILLED with PAINFUL sores and blisters. Our lips were SWOLLEN. The technician had done the procedure VERY incorrectly and burned us (literally). As a precaution, we went to urgent care immediately and saw a doctor. He wasn't able to do anything for us other than tell us to wait it out. It was an ENTIRE week until our mouths were back to normal. For one week, drinking, eating and talking were all incredibly PAINFUL. If affected our work, our home life. Everything. We emailed Designer Shades, explained the situation and requested a refund of our services. It took them ONE MONTH and multiple email exchanges and phone calls to refund our purchase. But it gets worse... On May 10, we received a $216 bill from our urgent care visit. We emailed the owner of Designer Shads and asked them to cover it. After all, if a business causes harm, that business should be responsible to make it right. As small business owners ourselves, we explained, we preferred to give them a chance to make things right in private instead of publicly blasting them on a review site. They refused. So, we gave them one more chance on June 1 -- three weeks after our initial email requesting reimbursement for the urgent care visit. We explained (again) that we didn't want to post a negative review online, but we were prepared to in order to protect future customers if they didn't do the right thing. They ignored us. We never heard back from them and we have all the email documentation to prove it. We would STRONGLY encourage EVERYONE to avoid Designer Shades at all costs. We wish we would have, because it cost us in more ways than one.
