| - I have to update my review, based on my recent horrendous experience at the clinic.
Last FRI, I brought my cat in for treatment, and was given two prescriptions, When I was checking out, I noticed one script had a dosage of 1/6 tsp. I asked the receptionist how I was supposed to measure this, as a 1/6 teaspoon does not exist. She said to try and get close to the range using other available measuring spoons, like, take a 1/4 tsp and shake some out. Um, OK. .
This was a powder, which is so strong and vile, no way would a cat eat this on their food, which is what was prescribed. I checked online, and sure enough, forum upon forum said cats won't touch it. I called the vet's office on FRI night, was told no doctors were in (thought they were 24 hours??), and that someone would call me in the morning. I also asked to confirm the dosage, as the measurement and amount sounded very high from what others had used for their cats. She could only read the chart - nothing more.
The next morning, the weekend vet called, and suggested I put the powder in gel caps. I also asked her to confirm the dosage, as it was higher than what other vets would normally prescribe. She also read off the chart, and said it was correct. OK...
Off I went to the compounding pet pharmacy, where the pharmacist refused to fill this prescription. He looked it up, and said the prescription was 4 times the top range of a safe dose. Not only that, he said he was dismayed they would prescribe such an odd amount (1/6 tsp), that I would never be able to measure accurately at home. He also said he was shocked they would give me powder, as cats would never ingest this stuff. Basically, he said they screwed me all the way around, and said I needed to re-confirm the dosage, before he could put the meds in caps for me.
I called the vet back for clarification, this now being the THIRD time I've asked and questioned the dosage. And, I was told that all the vets were at a conference for the weekend, and there was no way to reach anyone, so I had to wait until MON until the regular vet was back. Seriously??? Then I was told the weekend vet was not experienced with this medication, so she could not advise on the correct dosage. This is again, 24/7 emergency service? And why would the weekend vet not know normal cat medication dosages?? At this point, I have ZERO confidence in this clinic.
Come MON, I still hadn't heard from the regular vet, so I called again. SIGH. Finally got a call back, and she insisted the dosage was correct. I explained that measuring teaspoons in 1/6 do exist, and she argued this (she's wrong), and I shared the conversation I had with the pharmacist, to which she argued his response as well. Then, she said she would call in the prescription again to the pharmacy to be put in gel caps. I then asked if this meant I had to pay TWICE for an expensive medication. Ayup. I pointed out to her that her dosage would be three pills, and was the cat really expected to ingest three pills at one sitting?? Ayup.
I took my cat to another vet, who also confirmed what the pharmacist said, and that 1/16 teaspoon is a correct dosage, twice per day. SIGH. Not 1/6 once per day as originally prescribed.
So, I spent $500 for this visit. Completely wasted money, as I had to spend another $250 elsewhere (same tests, btw, and HALF the price of AHS). It's clear this clinic cares about getting your money, and that this place is NOT a 24/7 operation. Seems like their hours are completely discretionary, and based on their schedule. And, it's clear the knowledge-base is really lacking. Once you lose faith in your doctor, you're kinda done.
I paid hundreds of dollars for tests, which I was never given final results of. There was zero follow-up. and zero interest in the health of my pet.
In a town where vet clinics are every 10 feet, no one should have to tolerate such dismissive and unprofessional care.
