| - We'd been meaning to go here for a long time, and I think the wait was worth it!
We were seated at a nice corner table (we were also offered the option of patio seating, which we declined). Hostess and wait staff were all friendly and present, well dressed and groomed. Our main server was particularly good--nice personality, knowledgeable, maybe a little too soft spoken, but hey, nobody's perfect! overall he made it a great restaurant experience.
We started with the pea flan and the chicken liver mousse. The flan was warm and lovely, and tasted purely of the essence of peas. The crisped prosciutto was a perfect accompaniment. Ditto the crisply grilled baguette served with the airy, gorgeous liver mousse. Nice start!
For main courses, we went for the gnocchi with pork and an Asian twist, and the hangar steak with potato purée, plus a side of roasted cauliflower to share. Had just a taste of the gnocchi, which was nice, and the husband loved. My steak was cooked to perfection, just delicious. Cauliflower was also quite good.
Dessert was the flourless chocolate torte and the strawberry rhubarb tart, both of which were outrageously good. The torte was decadently chocolate--so rich, portioned just right--awesome. The tart was accompanied by strawberry balsamic macarons, which were delicate and so, so good.
It was a wonderful evening, a little on the pricey side for us, but great for our special occasion. We will definitely be back, but not sure how soon. Can't afford to eat out like that very often, but we didn't feel Spoon was overpriced. Rather, it was worth every penny!
