  • If you are thinking about joining a Muay Thai gym (or trying out a class or two), I highly recommend Krudar! The people that work here are amazingly friendly, and the classes are effective and dare I say, fun. They're intense at first, but you can go at your own pace (or a little closer to it, anyway) and you get used to it really fast if you keep going. After 45 minutes of cardio and strength training (both of which will help you in the long-run for the Muay Thai part of it all), the instructors give you demos of combinations to practice with a partner. They change it up a lot so you can become well-rounded. When I first started taking classes, I was definitely flailing around. The instructors walk around, though, to make themselves accessible for questions and technique-refinement. It's up to you to ask them for help, though. Everyone in the classes are really helpful too, and will give you well-meaning tips and cues if they see that you're doing something incorrectly. When I started asking the instructors for help and paying attention to the people in my class, I started immediately feeling more powerful and in control. Nothing else like it. There is a gym in the basement with some weights and punching bags, and the gym also offers kettlebell classes and spin. I haven't taken their spin classes (I took it once somewhere, and vowed to never try again), but I have taken their kettlebell class and boy, were my arms tired. In a great way. If you are thinking about getting a monthly/yearly membership: keep an eye on their website! They have awesome deals all of the time.
