| - I initially visited Berg's when expecting our first child. The universe of buying baby furniture locally is tough- options include major retailers, who have decent furniture but at prices that seem a little high (Buy Buy Baby), to other major retailers, who offer baby furniture for a decent price, but with no assistance and less than optimal quality (Target). There had to be something else.
That's where Berg's comes in. When I met the store owner, he spent well over an hour explaining baby furniture and mattresses to me, particularly various features and benefits. I received a whole education in little time. It seemed to me that if we could find a convertible crib that would grow with our child, with quality furniture (nightstand, dresser) to match, we could avoid needing to replace baby furniture at each stage of development. In other words, my husband and I decided to invest more up front for what we wanted, avoiding the need to upgrade and invest later on.
We ultimately chose a bedroom set (crib, dresser, night stand, conversion kits) called the Nottingham, offered by Baby's Dream. The crib actually turns into a queen sized bed. The set is solid wood, and the finish is a rich espresso. The quality of workmanship is superb- which is evident when opening a drawer. We joke that our daughter has the best furniture in the house.
Delivery went well- for $80ish dollars, Berg's will deliver and assemble ordered furniture. The delivery men arrived on time, assembled the furniture quickly while attending to detail, and were very pleasant.
Two years later, we were expecting our second child. My husband and I returned to Berg's. After considering our options, we decided on the Nottingham set in slate. Unfortunately, Baby's Dream is undergoing some restructuring/difficulties, so the wooden sets had been discontinued. Bergs had some of what we wanted (the crib/ nightstand) but not the double dresser (only single). Dave and Margaret did their best to locate what we were looking for, but ultimately, we ended up purchasing a close out bundled Nottingham set from a baby furniture store out of Atlanta. Dave (the owner) was extremely gracious, and assisted us in locating the pieces that the store in Georgia didn't have, including the toddler conversion piece. Additionally, Dave had some complementary pieces for our first daughter's set (book case, hutch), and we purchased those pieces at closeout prices. Again, Bergs delivery service went very well.
All in all, we were very pleased with the quality of products Berg's offers, and the expert level of service. We never felt pressured, but we felt informed. We spent more than we initially expected, but that was more of a function of our our lack of knowledge at the outset. Finally, Dave- and his employees' - professionalism was noted throughout. I highly recommend them to others.
