| - I recently started a new job in the Tempe area and I'm more than happy to try all the restaurant in the area for breakfast and lunch. One of the first places I tried was AZ Bread Company for breakfast. I am so, so, so glad I did. I love a good sandwich, breakfast, lunch, dinner, doesn't matter. I love bread! Hungry and wanting something new, I searched Yelp for breakfast near me. AZ Bread Company popped up with 4.5 stars. I looked over the menu and decided to give them a call and place an order.
There were tons of options for sandwiches I've never heard of. I like originals - score! I decided on The Phoenician. The Phoenician is a sandwich that has scrambled eggs, honey smoked bacon, roasted tomatoes, sautéed onions and cheddar on a grilled ciabatta roll. I'm not a fan of ciabatta rolls at all so I asked the person on the phone what other bread did they have besides white and wheat. He answered with slight irritation, you can have any bread in the store for your sandwich. I politely told him I've never eaten here before and the bread options aren't listed on the breakfast menu (as they should be IMO). He sighed, and told me my options. I went with the Challah bun. Great choice! The sandwich was nothing like I expected. I expected a layered breakfast sandwich with eggs, bacon, roasted tomato, cheese and sautéed onions. The sandwich came kind of omelet style. Everything was all cooked together then put on the Challah bun. Still delicious! The roasted tomato was a really nice addition to the sandwich. My job is located about 11 minutes from AZ Bread Company. When I placed my order he said it would be 3-5 minutes. Wow! Next time I won't order ahead of time, there's really no need.
AZ Bread Company has a check offer. If you get a free soft drink or coffee on them. I checked in and redeemed my order. The man that took my order was also the man at the cash register (I could tell from him voice and his non-friendly demeanor). I told him I'd like to redeem my check in off and get a hot cup of coffee. He gave me a HUGE soft drink cup, maybe a 20 ounce cup. I opted for Dr. Pepper instead. I'll definitely be returning!
