  • New to the area, need to find a new smoke shop. Heard good things from coworker about this spot. As it turns out, I was in the market for a new "water pipe" since mine broke. So boyfriend and I stopped in on a Tuesday night. Walked in and was soon greeted by an employee. Said we were checking them out, and he pointed out the major sections of the store (water pipes, hand pipes, oil rigs, etc). It was a little awkward browsing due to the fact that he sort of followed us step by step, and in front of us. He was behind the display case, but he matched our pace so that he stood directly in front of us, basically standing in the way of us looking at the product behind the case on the wall. Since I mentioned I was looking for a bong (on the wall) and not a hand pipe (in the case), I was surprised that he was all but blocking our line of sight. I sort of stepped away or like out of his way and he quickly wandered off when the other employee mentioned something to him about a leaking water pipe. No big deal, just kind of weird. Once we walked around the store a bit and got a feel for what product was being offered, I was ready to start looking at pieces up close, which I then needed to find a clerk to come assist me. Here is why my rating is less than stellar: the selection and service. I realize that it is a smoke shop and not Nieman Marcus. For being the only patrons shopping in the store, I don't feel like I should have to ask for some assistance. I work in retail so I know how it goes, you don't want to stalk your customer, nor do you want to abandon them. Its not hard to give them some space while you work on other tasks, but you can keep an eye out for when they look like they need help. The two dues working were just fucking off. Once I got some help, the guy wasn't very thrilled to be showing me pieces, much less offering any help. Any interaction exchanged was only due to me asking questions. As for the selection, was very minimal compared to what the website made it seem like. Online are listed all the brands of glass they offer, but in the store only encountered maybe 6. It seemed like maybe they just moved in, not a lot of selection on the floor. We even asked if they had anything in back stock, or someplace we weren't seeing. Only a few Zong pieces, and they were just different colors of the same style. I didn't see a single Tsunami, which I was considering getting. In fact, most of the stock seemed to be a lot of one style, just in different colors or sizes. I also felt like there were way more oil/dab rigs as opposed to just regular bongs. For such a big store, I was really surprised at the lack of selection in the bongs. To be honest, I think the clerks were stoned. Yes, I get its a smoke shop, but the help should be able to perform their tasks and assist customers. Maybe they get a lot of window shoppers, but this is Scottsdale. We have money and we want to exchange it for a good, so help us do that! I could smell the dank in the shop, I am a stoner too. But I don't smoke at work or go to work stoned. In the end, we got a nice piece for cheaper than the price tag. We told him what we wanted and what we wanted to spend and got some cigars, too. I just feel like it could have been a better or less awkward experience. Also they didn't say thanks for stopping in, come back, here's our loyalty program, nada. Just here's your purchase, later.
