  • The second star is because I had an absolutely wonderful experience the first time I came here! It was earlier this year and there was only one employee working at that time, but he was so friendly and welcoming! He gave great suggestions for drinks and it was just overall great service and amazing experience. The decorations are also just so cute, I love the juke boxes on the tables! My first time at Macalpine's was so great that I came back again today! It was like an entirely different place. We walked in an hour before close and were greeted by dirty looks from the two girls working. I totally understand being somewhat annoyed with people coming in when you're getting ready to close - I've worked several jobs in the food industry - but at every one of those places, we'd put on a smile and treat them the same whether it was an hour before closing or a minute before closing. I just asked for the drink menu, not realizing the ice cream section was on the food menu. I didn't want to bother the girl again so I went to pick up what I thought was the food/ice cream menu from the counter myself. The girl just came to our table and took them away, only saying, "That's the kids' menu" pretty rudely. The cherry on top was that it somehow ended up being over $9 for a hot fudge sundae. It was listed as 6.59 in the menu, and even with 10% tax and 15% tip that shouldn't have been much over $8 unless toppings were extra, but all I had on it was the caramel, fudge, and whipped cream, all of which were listed under what came on it. And it's not like I really care about an extra dollar or two, but it was definitely not worth nearly $10 for 2 scoops of subpar ice cream and terrible service. This is actually the worst review I've ever left for any place, but I was just so disappointed after having had such a great time the first time I tried it. This place might be worth the high prices if you really like the nostalgic atmosphere, but I personally don't think I'll be returning.
