My husband and I have a really busy work schedules so we decided to take a day off and come here for a relaxing staycation. We checked in and headed down to the pool where we had a few cocktails and some really great food. Once we got back to our room we hung out for a bit and ordered room service. We shared all of the room service food except for the hamburger. Two hours later, my husband got very sick. So sick that he couldn't even go in the car to drive back home. Our romantic getaway was foiled by him needing to be in the restroom all night long. When I told the staff upon check out they were very unapologetic. The girl checking me out didn't crack a smile or even ask how my stay was. They did comp the dinner. However that's the least they could do. I'm not going to pay for a hamburger that made my husband sick and ruined our trip.
Once I brought up Foodborne illness, they brought out a guy from loss prevention. He proceeded to ask me how much we drink, how the burger was ordered, how long we stayed in the sun etc. I proceeded to tell him that my husband only had a couple beers and we were only by the pool for an hour. He literally told me that alcohol interacts negatively with red meat and consuming the two together can make someone sick. I'm pretty sure the millions of people who have ever had a burger and a beer or a steak and a glass of red wine can attest that this is utter trash and was just a grown man patronizing me. The loss prevention guy told me that had I came to him earlier (when my husband was sick) he would have been able to do more but because the charges had already been made, he couldn't do anything about it. I'm not sure if Montelucia has ever heard of something called a refund but this makes no sense and I was treated as though I was just trying to get something for free when really my husband got sick and I just wanted them to know. Really poor service from a resort I had loved.
