  • The neighborhood's excellent food quality sets a very high bar. Monty's sandwiches half as good as Alchemy's. Monty's chili half as good as Weary Traveler's. Monty's vegan options almost as good as Green Owl's. Monty's ice cream treats are half as good as the Chocolate Shoppe's. All of those places are within a mile and none of them make you wait like Monty's. If you like highbrow breakfast food, Marigold is generally better (but still crowded). If you like middlebrow or lowbrow breakfast food, there's no need to pay $11 a plate. Two nice things must be said about Monty's. (1) The pie quality is above average with good selection. (2) Hopefully, the crazy lines at Monty's drive people to other nearby places with better offerings. In a one-bar town, Monty's would probably score four stars. Alchemy, Weary Traveler, and Chocolate Shoppe are walking distance and Marigold is two miles. And that's if you're not even considering Laotian across the street, or Vietnamese and Thai up the street. Standing next to tall people makes me look even shorter; Monty's is so close to so many marvelous dining options that it just does not shine the way it used to before the competition heated up.
