  • Referrals are scary because you go in blindly without knowing a thing about the dentist. Upon entering Dr. Fife's office, I saw two assistants huddled with their backs to me, dressed in all black. Keeping one hand on the door in case I needed to bolt quickly, I waited till they turned around to see if they wore black lipstick and nail polish. After all, Goth girls can be intimidating and merciless when it comes to dishing out pain. When they looked my way, it was a relief to see that they were normal pleasant people, however, so I chose to keep my appointment and not call in sick from the doorway. "Maybe the black outfit conceals the blood and spittle from slobs like me," I thought. Turns out Dr. Fife had a pleasant chair-side demeanor. He's explaining the use of a microscope for my surgery and all I can visualize is a young guy fresh out of school, breaking out the bunsen burner, petri dish, and microscope for some wild experiment inside my open yap. But not only did he get to the root of my canal problem, he did so quickly and rather painlessly. Then he had the decency to call me after hours to make sure all was well. Till then, the only time a professional ever contacted me later in the day was to inform me my check bounced. Thank you for the great job, Dr. Fife......my canal no longer feels eerie.
