  • After reading such great reviews on the waxing here I decided I should give it a try yesterday. Reasons for the second star: I had an appointment at 5pm for brows, upper lip, underarms and brazilian and was in the area an hour early with nothing to do and wondered if I could squeeze in a pedicure since the blue nail polish on two of my toenails somehow disappeared the night before (imagine that, yuck!). I came in and they had no problem fitting me in their schedule. For a Vietnamese run nail salon I must say that I was very impressed that the women who work there weren't loud and obnoxious like the ones you'd find elsewhere. They didn't shout out at each other across the salon, there weren't groups of staff congregating in any part of the store having annoying conversation and I didn't even hear them whisper anything bad about the patrons like I normally would (I'm half Vietnamese, half white and understand Vietnamese fluently) but maybe they could tell--who knows. I also liked how clean and organized they were. I absolutely adored Kim, who did my wax. She is so sweet, great to talk to and is very skilled with her waxing technique. Although there is always pain while waxing lady parts, it was minimal with her, I could hardly feel a thing! If it wasn't for her, I probably wouldn't consider coming back and one star would have been fair. Reasons for the terrible score overall: The store shares the same typical decor as others, chairs for people waiting, a rack of nail polish, manicure tables, pedicure chairs, drying table, a tv, white walls and light coloured floors. I'm pretty sure they have pot lights but the place felt so sterile you'd swear they were fluorescent. I understand that good lighting is ideal for working in but they could really bring the place up a few notches by adding some colour (how 'bout yellow or taupe?) and maybe even a couch for waiting clients to make the place a bit more cozy. The same goes for the room where the waxing is done, I want to say it reminds me of my doctors office where I get my annuals, but I can't because it's worse! This room actually does have fluorescent lights and I hate fluorescent lights. I normally do manicures/pedicures myself because I know what my hands/feet need and how it should be done. I haven't had the time lately, the reason for my pedicure at the salon. Dina did the pedicure and it was mediocre at best, rushed, sloppy and not thorough. During the procedure, she was pretty cold, not very personable and at times it was almost as though she was rolling her eyes every time she'd tell me to switch my feet. By the time she was done there was still half an hour before my appointment, time she could have utilized to take care of ingrown nails and scrape off the dead skin under my feet (it's not like I have very much to deal with anyway.) Last but not least the wax products. I have never seen my face and my lady parts so red and swollen after a wax before in the years I have done it, with the exception of perhaps my first time and one other time (another review I should probably write.) I'm not entirely sure what kind of after wax products they use either but I know for sure that there was a point when she used rubbing alcohol, the smell was undeniable and it stung like a m*****f*****. I'll apologize in advance for being graphic -- When I came home I had to use the little girls room and I kid you not, the sensation while urinating, wiping then putting my panties back on was excruciating! I came very close to putting ice on it but I was worried that it might've actually been an opened wound...which it was, it's been about a day and even though the pain has subsided, it has actually scabbed over (we all know how it's supposed to feel and it does NOT feel like that right now.) Yup, she happens to be pretty damn sensitive and she was skinned :( Please don't take this review the wrong way because I'm not faulting Kim, she's actually amazing. This is just a warning to those who also happen to be sensitive in their southern regions, the wax and after wax products they use are questionable and may not work well with you. I really hope they look into getting higher quality soft wax, after wax products, and seriously consider using hard wax for us girls who need it. When that happens, I'll be more than happy to give it another try and update the review to one with 5 stars. If things go well of course ;)
