  • I'm really disappointed, I love me a cupcake but this place was totally not it at all. I lived in Kansas for about 10 years and cupcakeries were dominating over there and there were a few good ones and one really stand out store (3 women and an oven, check it out if you're ever out in kc), therefore i always see how other places measure up to my favorite cupcakery in kc. i was excited to try this place out, my mom always picks cupcakes out for my birthday and when she called main street cupcakes, they wouldn't do a custom order? i guess you have to buy 12 of each flavor you want if your pre-order? how rude, as if asking for a custom order of different flavors is a crime. so we decided to go in on Saturday to see the selection, the woman my mom spoke to said the cases "should be full, with plenty of different flavors". we arrived and this place is TEENY. i don't really take an issue with the size of a store but i mean, probably only 5 people max can comfortably move around in there at a time. and to my surprise and my mother's surprise, there were 5 flavors to chose from. NONE of which i actually wanted. you can imagine my disappointment. when my mother questioned the woman behind the case, she seemed surprised that someone wouldn't do a custom order for us, leading me to believe someone who picked the phone up earlier that week was just being lazy and didn't want to actually do a custom order. but we decided to order a few and try them out. we got the all chocolate, caramel, red velvet, strawberry and champagne, and some kind of chocolate fudge. i tried a little bit of each and uh, there's very little to say about them. the cake is very small, smaller than if i had made my own at home. and the icing is sickeningly sweet. i love sweet cupcakes but there was no variation in the flavors. the icing all tasted the same, i couldn't taste the caramel in the "caramel butter cream" and even the "chocolate butter cream" tasted almost identical with a little cocoa added. i was not impressed, i will continue my hunt for a decent cupcakery in the area now that i live here, but i mourn the loss of my favorite store in Kansas city. Cleveland doesn't seem to offer a whole lot when it comes to gourmet shops, which is annoying. there's a market for it people! overall i wasn't impressed and probably won't be returning. the prices are also EXTREMELY steep for such a small cupcake, i wouldn't have an issue shelling out the dough for it had the cupcake actually been good. i hate being a downer, but this experience was just bad. bad service, bad cupcakes. no.
