  • My fiancĂ© and I visit Downey's every summer at least twice and we head across the street to Berryview in the fall to go apple picking. This is definitely a place to take kids, and they make the entire experience child-friendly - they even have a petting zoo. You need to be careful about the time of day that you go. Firstly, they close early (around 4:30 I think in the summer), and if you go later, you can bet you won't be finding much to pick. It's best to go in the early morning, right when they open. They have the most delicious pumpkin doughnuts inside (makes me so sad that I can no longer eat them!) and they also have homemade fudge, local produce and local wines. The fudge changes regularly, which is nice since I love fudge and I love variety. They also have a little ice-cream place attached to the shop. Price-wise I'd say it's pretty average for farm-fresh stuff, and when you pick the berries instead of buying the pre-picked, you get a pretty good deal. There's nothing tastier than fresh berries, and I know I'll be back next summer!
