| - I have been looking for a replacement for Rudy's BBQ in Albuquerque ever since I moved to Phoenix 8 years ago. Texas BBQ House opened up just down the road from me and thank God it did. It may not be quite as good as Rudy's, but it is pretty close.
I usually tend to stick to the lean brisket and turkey to keep the fat and calories down and I enjoy both cuts very much. Some might not think they have enough flavor or juicyness. If so, try the moist brisket and the pork ribs. More fat and calories, but definitely more flavor.
Everything is served in the traditional Texas style, on butcher paper. Your tray is an old soda crate, and your plate is a clean sheet of butcher paper. The staff will give you a few slices of white bread based on the amount of meat you purchased. More meat, more bread. You grab the three common sides, pickles, onions, and pickled jalapenos seperately and the BBQ sauce is at the table.
If you want to purchase other sides, such as beans, cole slaw, etc, it is all there in the true Texas fashion. I recommend the creamed corn and the pinto beans.
As I said before, I have definitely had better Texas style BBQ in NM and Texas, but this place holds it own. My only real issue is I wish they would make a spicier bbq sauce.
I eat here about once a week, so the place definitely deserves a high rating.
