My wife and I would frequent this bakery often. We call it Jean Jacque's after the lovable tyrant that owns the place.
We toured Europe on our honeymoon and came to discover that Jean Jacque is the real deal. The food he sells in his bakery on the Kingsway is just as amazing and authentic as it is in France.
When we returned from France, I wanted to see if there was another place, other than Jean Jacques's, that sold high quality, authentic French pasties so I Googled , "Best French Bakery in Toronto". After sifting through all the porn that came up, the consensus was a place called Ma Maison. I went there and it sucked. There's nothing in Ma Maison that you can't find at your local Loblaws. Don't be fooled! Go to Jean Jacque's instead!
Sure there are tons of rules that are hand written all over the walls and sometimes he'll give you baguettes instead of change, but that's awesome! It feels like France in there!
He's the Napoleon of the Kingsway! And I suspect the Japanese lady in there is his Josephine. Which is a good thing because those floppy haired, lulu-lemon wearing Tween brats in that area need a good Dictator!
