| - I've never left a business so angrily as I have left Family Vetcare. I have spoken to the manager, who was polite - as most of the staff are. The issue, like others have said, is the extreme pressure they use to push their services. It seems the downturn in the veterinary field has ruined a formerly respectable little office.
I scheduled a nail trimming appointment for my dog this morning. He was vaccinated at the office last year and when we were in town he has had his nails clipped, too. I was told on the phone that it is time for more vaccinations, but said that I was not interested in having them done today. "Well, we will let a tech talk to you about the importance of vaccinations while you're here." What! My dog is developing normally; I'm not concerned there will be a rabies shot-autism link. I have valid reasons for not wanting to vaccinate Today, all of which were inconsequential when I said "not today."
I was taken into an examination room, which has never happened to me before for a nail trim. I was shown the quote for vaccinations, which I hadn't wanted to go over. Then, the invoice for a toe nail trim and "vet tech consult." The vet wasn't clipping the nails, obviously. But the "vet tech consult" was a charge I had never been given before. I was told by the manager when I called after leaving that they always take the dog's vitals, it is just usually complimentary within a year of a vet examination. At that point, it seemed like there would be a qualifier for any concern I had with their salesiness. It's Thursday. You have to go over these vaccine brochures and then buy the office Cold Cut Combos on Thursdays.
Its awful to be treated like you do not care for your pet when you do not agree to all recommended services. The language was so reproachful, like I was indigent but should at least be humane enough to provide my chihuahua with all of the accessories of modernity: antibodies, many and often!
My dog has black claws that I'm afraid to clip. I took him in for a trim and now I have to find a new vet. Bummer.
