  • I adopted a dog from the AAWL about a year ago and it was the best experience I've ever had and the best decision I ever made! After months and months of visiting many facilities, AAWL seemed to be the favorite. The facility is organized and clean. It seems like they really take the time to care for these animals. It was very clear to me that these animals were very well treated for. I visited this place about three or four times before I took the step in meeting some pups and every time I was greeted by friendly volunteers. Once I was ready to make the commitment to adopt I had four to five dogs in mind that I wanted to meet. It didn't take long for someone to get me in touch with a staff member to help me out. He escorted me to the grassy lawn area and I gave him names of the dogs I wanted to see. One by one he brought them out. Lulu was the first and she was super shy and a little disinterested but I weren't discouraged. I saw a few other dogs and they were all beautiful and fun but the more I thought about it, the more I wanted that shy dog. She tugged at my heart a little more so I told the staff member that I wanted her and he escorted me to his office. We went through all the necessary paperwork and payment and I was good to go. Once I got home Lulu seemed to adjust beautifully. She was very well trained and already housebroken. She was such a dream. Someone put some real time into her whether it was her previous owner or the staff at AAWL, I don't know but she was amazing. She did get kennel cough about a week into having her but after a week or two of medication she was good as new. The vet did say it is pretty common for shelter dogs to get kennel cough. It's been almost a year and she has impacted my life in such a huge way! I don't remember what life was like before her! However life now is a constant adventure full of walks in the park, rides in the car, and belly rubs.
