We had an oil change, tire rotation and vehicle inspection on June 27 to prepare for a 4th of July weekend in the mountains. Robert advised that the tires would be swapped side to side as the front and back are different sides.
When it was time to check out I was advised that the car was in great shape, maybe have the air filters changed on the next visit.
We stopped in Salt Lake for a meal. Because the front tires were rotated out in the parking space I could see that the inside edge of the tires were worn dangerously past the steel belt into the cloth belts beneath the metal belts. It was impossible to drive with tires in that condition. Because it was a holiday weekend and because the tires are low profile, high performance tires no one could get tires until July 5th.
The tire dealership further advised that we were lied to about the tires being swapped side to side. The tires are directional and would have to be remounted on the opposite rim. We were also lied to about the inspection. No one could miss how damaged the front tires were. The steel belts are bright and shiny, there is no tire tread on 3 inches of the inside of the tires.
We could have destroyed our car and been killed. This is actually our third service visit. The first one was bad, this one sealed the deal. No more Jaguars in our garage.
