  • I stayed here twice in with my partner in 2013 while on our way to and then again on the way back from visiting Grand Canyon National Park. Our first night was fine; we had the room type we had reserved and standard service. The room was updated and the breakfast was good. However, the second night was awful and a very frustrating experience that has made me never want to stay in any of the Hyatt hotels again. Here's what happened: I had confirmed our second night reservation and room type ahead of time and was assured everything was in order. Great! But then when my partner and I arrived we walked in together to check-in (in hindsight, I guess a big mistake to think we'd be treated as well as any other couple) and then were treated horribly. Being in a same-sex relationship I've had a few awkward hotel experiences with clerks repeatedly offering rooms to my partner and I with 2 double beds and me needing to tell them that the king room we reserved is just fine, but this Hyatt Place took it to a whole new, terrible level. The clerk offered us the 2 doubles and I declined, then he started typing away and we were given what I suspect is the worst room in the hotel -- and of course with 2 doubles when we had specifically reserved a king suite and even called ahead to make sure we were all set (I guess since they couldn't see I was one half of a same-sex couple on the phone the nicer rooms were available then?) When we saw the room I called the desk and let them know there must have been a mistake. I was told the hotel was 100% full and no other rooms were available. I didn't believe this since the parking lot was mostly empty, and definitely had fewer cars in it compared to when we stayed at the hotel previously. We were really frustrated and feeling discriminated against and disappointed that this was souring the end of a great vacation, so I called my Dad and asked him to do a little experiment for me: call the hotel and ask if they have any king suites available for that night. He called and was told they had that room type available for that same night, no problem. I called the front desk again to see if they had another room we could switch to and again was told absolutely nothing was available. If I could give 0 stars to this hotel I would. No one should be treated like that, and I definitely expected more from a Hyatt.
