  • This was my first time going to Maya, only because of all the positive Yelp reviews. For the last few cuts and or colours, I've been going to the Aveda Institute and they've been hit or miss. Plus, it always ends up being more expensive then I originally think it will be - as well as a major time suck. Anyways, that's another review... Back to Maya... The sign outside is a bit hard to see, so it took me a few minutes to actually locate. Once I arrived a few mins early for my 11am appointment, I sat in the waiting area. Almost immediately, I got my coat taken care of as well as the juice box (which I'd heard about through other Yelper reviews). Didn't have time to drink it before my stylist was ready for me. I showed her a Pinterest pic that I had of the style I wanted. There was a bit of conversation about style, etc... then onto a wash. A good wash in the sink and then back in the chair. She blow dried my hair a bit so that she could see where it naturally fell - which I think is a sign of a confident hair dresser. Better than just cutting into completely wet combed straight hair. Then she started cutting away. I could tell she was giving me the style I asked for and she was checking her cutting at various times too. She cleaned up my bangs, added a bit more texture and then before I knew it I was done and my hair had a STYLE. Everything took about half an hour, which was perfect. At the Aveda Institute, I've sat in the chair for what feels like forever as the student hairstylist tries to figure out how to go about cutting. I was happy with my wash, cut and style. It was definitely cheap - $30 cash including taxes, but it didn't feel like a rushed or cheap cut. I've paid more in other salons, it's taken much longer and I've left not nearly as happy! So way to go Maya, I'll be coming back for sure.
