OMG. Here I was, a Chicago boy in Cave Creek on Fat Tuesday, or ( as it's known in Chicago) Paczki Day!!! Paczki (pronounced "poonch key") are a big freaking deal in Chicago, where we have more Poles than Warsaw, but I only saw 2 bakeries in Phoenix offering the pastry. Thankfully, we happened to be in Cave Creek, so Janas was our pick.
The food gods were with us that day....
Ordered six pazckis and a six-pack of pre-packed kolackis. All three flavors (raspberry , custard and strawberry) were right on: fresh as hell and non-greasy. These might be the best I've ever had- and believe me, I've had a few. The kolackis were equally amazing: flaky and fresh.
Im still wondering why Janas decided to open a first-rate Polish bakery in a place that probably has no more than 3 poles, but hey Cave Creekers: Enjoy!
