| - So disappointed. I have been here a few times and they are OK. I find it to be a hit or miss. The reason I decided to give it 2 stars is because of two main reasons: I went there on a Monday and bought a strawberry shortcake cake, which is an 8 inch cake that is supposed to be fantastic, as per the bakery, and it was $45, not including tax. The cake tasted awful. I don't know if they put too much essence in it, but it had a horrible immediate aftertaste and was simply not edible. No one in the party wanted to continue eating the cake because of how bad it was. I was pretty upset over the fact that I bought a cake here and brought it home only to find out that it was terrible. I could have spent $5 to $10 on ingredients and made a cake just as bad myself! I did call the bakery and let them know how bad the cake was and they told me they would put a credit of $50, which is what I paid in total for the cake, and the next time I come in they would have a credit on my account under my name. The second reason is that I went today, on a Saturday. It turns out that two days ago this bakery went under new ownership. When I told them that I was very nervous to try the strawberry shortcake after what happened, all they said is that 'we are under new ownership and we heard nothing about any credit'. I can understand that as they are new owners and it was not a big deal to me. So I asked what cakes they had... to say the least... completely boring and unimpressive cakes.
From now on, I will make the effort to go to Freed's bakery. As far as I'm concerned, if you are going to charge this much for a cake, it better be delicious and original, and this was anything but that. I took time to think about it, and if I were these owners, I would've called to find out if indeed there was a credit as it's a matter of principle. The bakery looks no different than it did before and carries the same name. That makes it just as responsible as the last one.
