| - Exemplary stylist. Attentive listener. Coiffeur extraordinaire. Gregarious business owner.
These are just a handful of the ways to describe Joanna. Meeting her was truly the best day in my hair's life, and I can't thank her enough for all the compliments I receive on my "so fresh" dome. Her love affair with my locks has been going on for over a year now, and I plan on being her client until she can cut and color no more.
When I first moved to Arizona, I tried a salon in Fashion Square a couple of times that gave me a decent cut, but at the end of the day they charged too much for what was clearly not the work of a professional. So in my time of need, I got on Yelp, saw that she had some great reviews -- and one from Rocky, who is also a cool dude -- and made an appointment. Obviously, this was the best cosmetic decision I've ever made.
As for what you can expect during a hair appointment... most people come to a new stylist with ideas about how they want their hair to look. Chances are she'll have better ideas, because she knows what she's doing and you don't. Seriously -- if you're looking for a new coiffeur, it's not because what you've been doing has been working for you. Don't bother washing your hair beforehand, because she's going to shampoo and condition you in one of those awesome basins, and then bring you over to her chair, which has one of the best views for people watching in the salon.
The folks at Steven Paul always offer drinks like coffee, tea, and water but Joanna one-ups them by offering her clients beer. If you play your cards right, you can go through a whole 6-pack during your cut -- just make sure you have someone pick you up from the salon after. Otherwise your new 'do is going to get some mugshot action.
I've referred several of my friends to Joanna, and all of them have said the same thing: Don't trust anyone else with your hair. If you're looking for a new stylist, get off your ass and give her a call.
