I give the park a 5 because I LIKE that all dogs have to be registered and show proof of shots and I'm willing to pay for that piece of mind. Parvovirus for one is rampant in the Carolinas and I feel at least a bit more secure knowing everyone there has proper shots. As a dog park regular in the CLT area for years I can strongly state the membership is worth the price. The park is impeccable and maintained. There is definitely a welcoming group of regulars especially on weekends. I've never seen this at any other park but most use the large dog side even with small dogs. Rottweiler and little shitzu? Yeah, they are socializing! It's hilarious! When you pay for something you are getting like-minded owners. And yup they DO check records!
I 100% disagree with giving the park a 2 out of 5 for cost. That information IS stated upfront. If I can't afford eating at a pricy restaurant should I give them 2 stars for the price? $200 a yr isn't outrageous for a private park. If it's too much, hey that's fine but to trash the Park in the process? Noooo... The basic dog park is 5 acres which is PERFECT... But the entire fenced In portion is about 20 acres! My beagles are in heaven but they can't escape. Amazing!! If you don't wish to pay for a membership then by all means use the free ones in Rock Hill, Charlotte etc. personally I LIKE not having day passes as you never know the dog etc. I can't tell you how many idiots I've encountered in other parks whose dogs are ill behaved. Whose dogs attacked others and they left leaving people with bitten or yes dead dogs (Davies) and taking no responsibility. Yeah honestly I LIKE not having "daily dogs." And if your dog does attack mine? Well I got your info.
All the things I hate about most dog parks are absent here: irresponsible dog owners, dogs that are aggressive, people who sit and don't watch their dog, etc. I'm not particularly fond of some breeds but the few I've encountered here are so sweet and behaved. I'm more comfortable now with the large breeds.
My 2 hounds on the fenced in trail is priceless! Not only do I get some exercise but I dont have to worry about my dogs running away and have even done some off leash training. They just added a shelter and an inside the park water station after suggestions from members so they are putting money into it.
I've met several volunteers (and now volunteer myself!!) and been asked for any advice on what else is needed and man - they sure do listen! I love it. I feel like I'm at some posh exclusive doggy club except everyone thus far is cool and welcoming. FYI the monthly fee includes both dogs so that's a plus! I love having a park membership and have ventured on hikes in the park with my boys on leash too. So basically for me it's $14.00 a month ($18 for family) for the park and dog membership. Done! Trust me l, if you are responsible and want a safe environment without constantly worrying about who is in the park.... Join!
