| - I finally had a chance to try this place with my kids over Fall Break. I have mixed feelings. First, the owners, they are really awesome. They want you to understand their product, what they have to offer, and for you to love it. I'm sure repeating everything many times a day is exhausting (I know as a mom it is!), but they thoroughly explained how to order, if I understood correctly:
1. You can choose from their most popular 6 flavor combinations on the overhead chalkboard
OR
2. You can make your own concoction:
A. Pick a shaved ice flavor
B. Pick an ice cream flavor
C. Pick your homemade marshmallow topping (it is available in different flavors. I believe depending on season. Currently, the special flavor is pumpkin pie spice marshmallow).
4. Optional to add a pretzel
I LOVE the homemade fluff. I love marshmallow fluff anyway, but tasting fresh fluff is divine.
Where the product fell flat for me was the syrup flavoring and the ice cream. I couldn't really taste anything. We sampled birthday cake, s'mores, rainbow (top 6 picks), and one person made up their own concoction. Not one of them had a distinguishing flavor. I couldn't really taste anything and once you got to the ice cream, it was all kind of a jumble of flavors.
I'm not sure if it's an issue with the syrup because they use cane sugar instead of corn syrup (which I love this idea, but if there is no flavor, why eat it!?!) or if it is the Thrifty Ice Cream brand. I'm not a big fan of Thrifty. Yes, they have lots of flavors, but it is not a high quality, creamy ice cream. It is a popular brand at many water 'n ice stores, but I personally wouldn't go there to eat ice cream for a yummy treat. I'm sure it's a personal preference and it helps keep cost down.
I liked the sprinkles on top of the fluff on birthday cake as it adds a little crunch and texture. The pretzel was an odd combination. The crunch was nice, and I understand the sweet with the salty, but since I didn't really taste the sweet, I was just eating a pretzel.
The graham crackers added to the s'more fluff was just a strange texture. I didn't like it at all and probably wouldn't order graham cracker on top again. The ice cream in the s'mores is a malted
chocolate with little crunchies. Again, the ice cream wasn't my favorite. Not creamy and not really flavorful.
Overall, I would go back and give them another try.
Yes, it was kind of pricey. Maybe more cost effective if you get the kids size.
They are a local mom and pop shop, new business, has a unique idea of yummy dessert, and I love to support that! Really nice, pleasant owners who want you to love their product. Unfortunately, the end product kind of fell flat for me.
But, I am one reviewer who will update when I try it again. I realize I am a minority 3 star reviewer on yelp, so please go and try it, support the owners, and write your own opinion.
Also, as a side note, their Facebook page stated they were open at noon during fall break. I called to verify this as many different schools have different fall break schedules, but no one answered the phone. Although, it was great they can use their fb page to update hours, it would have been more helpful if there was more specific details.
