  • I really would like to give VFO a higher rating as they were never rude or mean to us. We had the flooring in our entire house replaced, around 1300 square foot tiles and 1500 square foot laminates. Our first impression about the company was that all of the employees there were very patient and nice. As much as I'm disappointed in their work quality, I do appreciate their patience with us throughout the process. The owner was also very accommodating and gave us a very good price. I would still recommend them to my friends for flooring products but I do NOT recommend using them for tile installation. Mike was our project manager and where should I start? He is a nice guy but sometimes being nice is not enough to be a project manager. He was not very organized and prompt in responding us. Don't get me wrong, I know they're super busy and deal with tons of people daily, and he always called back after, but he never showed up on the site to check on the work of the workers, which should be his primary responsibility, as he is a "project manager", not just a "sales person". I saw a lot of reviews mentioning jimmy which I really wish we had used him instead. Things probably would've been a lot different. We originally wanted 1/16" grout line which is pretty common in rectified tiles. Mike insisted that 3/16" is better as that's the recommended width by the tile manufacturer and added a waiver for lippage if we decided to do a smaller width. It raised an alarm as I know for less qualified tile installers, smaller joint could be an issue for them. I know I am picky and since I was working in the industry before, I notice things most people don't. So I compromised and agreed to do 3/16" joint and 70/30 overlay. ( Although I thought he understood that we agreed to increase the width of the tiles after we talked on the phone, but I guess there was a miscommunication since he did mention to us later that he was not aware. As I mentioned before, he is not very responsive on sending back revised work orders, we didn't think otherwise when he didn't send a revised work order. Nevertheless, the job was done on a bigger grout line.) The workers had an older version of the work order. They ended up replacing our old baseboard when we told Mike a couple days prior that we decided not to replace the baseboard since they're still fairly new and it's the same height as the new ones we were going to use. Since Mike never showed up on the worksite, he had no idea that the old baseboards were getting replaced. We came to the house and checked on the progress after the workers left and I literally freaked out seeing all the ripped baseboards. Good thing is that he agreed it was his fault and replaced the baseboards for free. I had to give them credits for that hence I said in the beginning that I really would like to give them a higher rating. So the tile story continues, they messed up on the tiles on the first floor which accounts for 80% of the tiles we purchased. There were lippages EVERYWHERE. I was beyond sad since we just purchased the house and the house was like my baby. 15,000 dollars was not a lot of money but sure deserved a better quality of work, especially for licensed contractors!!! Mike finally came out to the site and he did agree some of the marked tiles needed to be replaced. I called him up after my work too ( my fiancĂ© dealt with the project most of the time) and expressed my disappointment and dissatisfaction to him. Khann and he eventually came out on a weekend and brought a digital leveler to measure the severity of the lippage. Long story short, they agreed to replace most of the tiles, which I appreciated. But in the end, it was replaced by the same workers and we all know if they mess up the first time, they can mess up the second time too because they're simply just not qualified for this type of job. I did want to mention that the workers were courteous and respectful. Oh and did I mention that the workers showed up not knowing which tiles to replace and which grout lines to redo. *smh* Mike didn't communicate to them at all. After they replaced the tiles, as usual, Mike didn't show up and checked on the work but demanded the remaining payments. Sometimes I wonder if we had paid them all at once, would they still have repaired and replaced the tiles for us when we asked? The end result is sub par and I get annoyed sometimes when I see the lippage. It's not as bad as the first time but the lippage is still there, especially with the lighting at night. At the end of the day, I do appreciate them worked with us patiently and the laminate was installed properly and it looked beautiful. I guess things could've gone worse. I don't want to get Mike into trouble as he is genuinely a nice guy. But I hope my review can help him or the company improve. In a word, products and price, , tile installation .
