  • Kensington Market is a jewel of the city. There is no other place like it in Toronto, and in fact few places like it in any city in North America. It might remind visitors of a market in France or Italy -- not in what is sold, but in the small-vendor-focused structure. There are two cheese places, three butchers, six (?) coffee places, a dozen green grocers, three fish places, two dry-goods stores, a mexican grocery, a spice store, two bread stores, a few dozen restaurants, a dedicated popcorn store, a chocolate store, two health food stores, a few bike shops, a park, five or so bars, a strip of vintage clothing shops, jazz club, community center, deli, etc. ! A wonderful thing about KM is that it's a people mixer. People from all stripes of life come here -- rich or poor, young or old, any religion, any ethnicity, any nationality. Everyone bumps along the narrow sidewalks and broken one-way streets. There's never enough bike parking, and drivers get frustrated by the obstacle course. I love it.
