This place kind of looks like it has gone out of business from the outside. The decor isn't much and it's kind of dumpy but the food is excellent. The first time we went here we walked right by it but I'm glad we eventually found it. The waitstaff was attentive and helped pick out a dish I'd like. I have heard a lot of people compare it to the new across Oakland Lulu's noodles but in my mind there is no comparison. Lulu's is good but nowhere near Spice Island Cafe good. I've liked everything I've tried here. Can't even name a favorite dish because I've gotten something different each time I've been there and it is always good. Yum is pretty much the best way to describe my feeling toward a lunch trip to this place.
