  • This store carried a raw food I used for my elderly dog plus most of his other products that we used with him. When we moved to the area I was so happy to know right in my hood was all I needed. When I first purchased the food after living in the country I was surprised at the price, higher than I had ever paid before. Pet Valu stores are franchises so they are kind of independent somewhat, the owner sets the prices on many things. The Pet Valu in the country sold me the raw Mountain Dog Food at $39.99 for a breeder box. The starting price at this store was well over that so much so I was surprised enough that I went home and checked the distributors price online to compare. The distributors price wasn't far off the store in the country, but it was more than $10 different from the store in Mississauga? At first I was being given a $5 discount because I was buying a full breeder box of the food. That made it a little easier to swallow but it wasn't long before that offer went away and I found myself paying over $50!!!!!!!!!! "another price hike by the distributor" who then surprisingly stopped posting their prices online. I believe it was $52 something with the tax for the breeder box for the same amount of food I paid $39.99 for in the country at the same damn store. Because my dog was old and the love of my life I said "forget it, don't sweat this, it hardly matters" to myself and spent a year blindly buying this food at this markup. Each time the price went up or an offer was taken away as the year went on I thought only of my old dog and what he needed as I spoke to the store employees about the price. One day I went into the Global Pet Foods a little farther west down Lakeshore in the strip mall of the Loblaws I go to and was surprised to see they too carried my dog's raw food. Imagine my surprise when they too offered it at $39.99 plus tax, for a grand total of $45 and change. OR $7 less than a store a mile away. My dog has since passed and as I think about whether we will get another I am just making notes as to whom carries the food lines we like and where I can buy them that is not Pet Valu at 201 Lakeshore West.
