I loved Binkley's flagship restaurant (now closed) and am looking forward to it's new incarnation/reopening in Phoenix proper. This contrast makes the experience at Cafe Bink all the more disappointing.
The service was bad, but the food did not even come close to making up for this fact. There were a few highlights (the pulled-to-order mozzarella and the squash soup) but almost everything else ranged from mediocre to just plan "not good". The steak was chewy (and we had to ask for a steak knife). The puttanesca was "fine", but I've made dishes of equal quality from leftovers and a box of penne. The heirloom tomatoes were hard, and hard to cut (and lacking in much tomato flavor to boot). Everything seemed inexplicably oily and under-seasoned, and the fried chicken, while crispy, was so lacking in flavor that one dining companion declared that 'even at that price, I'd rather have ::insert your favorite provider of fast food fried chicken here::'.
And the price is definitely a huge issue, when the food is this underwhelming. I will happily pay a premium for smaller portions of well-prepared food, but the prices here are ridiculous for what you get (which is small portions of mediocre-quality food, inattentively prepared).
