  • Made my appt with Chelsea at the recommendation of a co-worker. As with most other black women, I was nervous about visiting a new salon since I had been going to the same salon in North Oakland for the last 10+ yrs. Salon Ivy is very convenient to my house, which is great, but I was worried about parking. Luckily, there is a public parking lot ($0.25 for 15 minutes; about 30 spaces) right next to the salon and there were plenty of spots open on a mid-morning on a Tues. I had a balyage & style appt with Chelsea. She was friendly and easy to talk to about my hair color ideas and concerns. The best part about my visit was that she only worked on my hair while I was there. Unlike other black salons, where the stylists are working on 2 or more customers at the same time, Chelsea likes to get her customers in-and-out. I was finished with my appt in 2 hrs - practically unheard of for a black woman getting her hair colored & styled...and she had time to do a quick trim! To me, pricing was as expected. I knew it was easily going to be over $100 for all I had done. It was worth it to not sit in a salon chair for 3+ hrs like I was used to doing these last 10 yrs! I will definitely go back to Salon Ivy!!
