  • Only been here one time so far, and I suppose I'd go again, if I were in the area and it were convenient, but I don't feel the need to make any kind of special effort to return. My husband had a doc appt in the neighborhood so I went in search of coffee in the meantime. I found Tryst Cafe and decided to go to it instead of Starbucks, which was slammed, next door. Good decision, I think, even if it did cost more. The Friday morning line and crowd at Starbucks was quite insane. I ordered the Tryst Benedict. It was kind of like eggs benedict but with a mild Anaheim pepper cream sauce, mozzarella, spiced ham, tomatoes, poached eggs and spinach (I had it without the ham and there was no spice heat, just flavor, which is good because I don't handle spicy). The coffee was good and strong and service was great. It was a little spendy for breakfast for one person, though ($18.42 for the plate and a coffee so $24 including tip), but for a once in awhile outing, I guess that's okay. Other points: First impression: music was way too loud both inside and out. I was here on a Friday morning at around 9:15 am -- there were only two other diners when I arrived, but by the time I left, the patio was full (about 10 or so other diners); and added to the din of people talking, it was disturbingly noisy, like going to a night club, except I really just wanted to have a nice, mellow morning drinking coffee and enjoying the surprisingly nice weather, since the patio was covered and sheltered from the morning sun, being on the West side of the building. There's just no way to chillax when it's that noisy (and unnecessarily so), though. The sweet potato tots were fine. They're deep fried, crisp (how I like 'em, actually), tater tots that are smaller than regular tater tots and made from sweet potatoes. They're good, but nothing that I think is remarkable -- I don't normally think of tater tots for breakfast, but if that sounds good to you, you'll probably really like them. All in all, good food, great service, nice atmosphere except for the too loud music, which made people have to talk too loudly to be heard over it, but a little too spendy. Would I recommend Tryst Cafe? Sure, if you're in the area, have to have organic food, have the money and happen to find it convenient. Will I return? Sure, if I'm in the area, feel like I need organic food (I go through phases), have the money (again, I go through phases) and happen to find it convenient.
