  • Now I don't normally deduct stars from a restaurant based solely on horrible service because lets face it--- it's usually a hit or miss when it comes to getting a good/bad server. I don't believe good service necessarily reflects on the overall quality of food in a restaurant, which is ultimately what truly matters. However, my experience at JJanga this past weekend was SO horrible that I had to deduct a star from its otherwise 4 star rating... TO JJANGA MANAGEMENT: FIND YOURSELF BETTER SERVERS THAT KNOW HOW TO BE POLITE TO GUESTS, NOT RUDE! It was my birthday and I went with my boyfriend around 4:30PM to celebrate. The restaurant wasn't busy at this time but because there was only one sushi chef working, our food took about 15-20 minutes to come out PER DISH, ITEM BY ITEM. Since the AYCE portions were very small, we finished each dish within a few minutes and had to wait another 15-20 minutes for the next dish. It was very annoying to have such a long wait time in between dishes, especially since everything was bite size. The girl that served us had a serious staring problem. I'm not the type of person to make assumptions about someone I don't know, but I swear the way she full on stared/glared at me while taking my order made me feel like she was inspecting every pore and blemish on my face. It was beyond uncomfortable and made me feel like she was judging me on a personal level, instead of being a professional server. Never once did she smile or speak a full sentence to me. She was so unwelcoming that I actually felt awkward and hesitant to order from her. To make matters worse, she only made direct eye contact with my boyfriend. At one point, my normally unobservant boyfriend even made a comment to me about her staring issues. When she did speak, I noticed that she wasn't fluent in English, which is completely fine. But seriously? As a server you should at least have some type of communication skill. Being shy and non-responsive is NOT the right attitude for the hospitality industry. How hard was it to just happily take an order? It wasn't like we were complaining about her service then and there. We walked in and immediately she eyed me up and down like I was some B*** she wanted to cat fight at the club -_-. I've had bad service before but never downright rude service like this. That aside, when the food did mange to come out most items were decent. The quality of fish was fresh albeit the portion was extremely small, even for AYCE sizes. We're talking about 1 piece of agedashi tofu, 2 pieces of gyoza, 2 pieces of fried scallops, etc.. all of that equate to literally 2 bites for each portion. As employees of Japanese restaurants on and off the strip, we were very annoyed with the way the sushi chef made the nigiris. The rice kept falling apart when we tried to pick it up. It was so poorly made that the rice would crumble into the soy sauce dish, causing us to eat the fish separate from the rice that was drench inside of soy sauce. Anyone that is a sushi chef or works in an upscale Japanese restaurant can tell you, crumbling rice is a big no no. Overall, this was my second time dining at JJanga. The first time was during their grand opening. I remember service being poor back then as well, but I figured it was because they had just opened and were training their servers. Sadly, the second time around after this establishment has expanded to two locations, I realize that nothing has improved. Most likely I won't be going back any time soon.
