| - I have been a donor with TWEB since 2015, and when I first started the donation process I loved the way the company treated me. A year or so ago, the company restructured their process and their staff. I have done quite a few donations with TWEB, and while the compensation was not as high as other companies, the convenience of knowing who I was working with and the process deterred me from trying other companies. I also made many friends who worked with TWEB as donors so it was nice to see familiar faces again. Since trying other companies I can tell you there's some unprofessional and shady things going on with their donation process. I have asked for the medical information from the facility several times and was told that those documents were property of TWEB and they do not have to release the information. After some research I can say that seems illegal, the only time medical information can be denied from a patient is when it has potential information that could harm that individual or another, or certain pyschotherapy notes- and information used to treat or examine an individual is considered medical information. Taken straight from the HHS.gov website it states that these covered entities must follow HIPPA, "Most Health Care Providers--those that conduct certain business electronically, such as electronically billing your health insurance--including most doctors, clinics, hospitals, psychologists, chiropractors, nursing homes, pharmacies, and dentists" (https://www.hhs.gov/hipaa/for-individuals/guidance-materials-for-consumers/index.html). According to your website under your donors tab, you mention an "outpatient surgery" that is preformed in your clinic, which by any definition is a medical procedure which requires documentation, especially considering donors are sedated for the process. Since your facility is considered an outpatient specialty clinic that hires doctors and nurses, you are by law required to follow HIPPA. Test results are medical information, and if you go to the HHC website you can see it clearly written on their website (https://www.hhs.gov/hipaa/for-individuals/right-to-access/index.html). I would also like to point out that HIPPA doesn't strictly say "medical records" it also uses the terminology "health information".
As a donor if you are looking for a company that makes you feel good about what you are doing, advocates for you rights, and treats you fair- TWEB isn't the place for you. If you are looking for a quick 4k and impersonal treatment, then you came to the right place. Donors, know your options and know what you are doing is important, research, because there are companies out there who will treat you better and offer you more money. I would also like to add that when TWEB tested me for genetic disease which could potentially be passed to the Intended Parent's (IP) child, yet they did not share the results with me. After doing the testing once more I was made aware of two recessive genes that I carry which could have potentially been passed on if the IP's shared that gene as well. They used the company Counsyl to get this information and under their specific guidelines I was entitled to a genetic consultation to discuss what that meant exactly. It also makes me wonder if they released that information to the IP's. While the genes I carry may not be as serious as some disorders all parties involved in the process should be entitled to any information that could cause potential harm to a child. The fact they disregarded this information should be reason enough to deter anyone (donors and couples needing donors) from using this company.
