  • This has been Cleveland's city market from the time it opened eons ago, looooooong before everybody started revamping old buildings to house cool city markets. The West Side market is truly old school, with nearly every ethnic tradition represented in its stalls and stands. I love the clock tower, I love the meat vendors, I love the old Cleveland ladies getting their particular old country fixings that you know will turn into unreal pierogis or paprikash or dolmas or bolognese or goulash or adobo by nightfall. For an added treat go check out the fantastic art deco bas reliefs on the towers of the nearby Carnegie Bridge, now renamed the Hope Memorial Bridge. They feature massive WPA carvings representing transportation and industry, and they're awesome, especially at night, when the city lights all the bridges over the Cuyahoga flats.
