| - Roma and the Hair Salon bearing his name are truly throwbacks to a bygone era.
I must preface this review by frankly stating that I have only ever received hair cuts from three establishments ever in my lifetime. To say that I'm a loyal customer to my chosen few is putting it mildly.
When I went to school in Ottawa I would wait until I was home for a weekend to get my hair cut by Roma's magical hand and when I worked in Alberta I simply shaved it off myself rather than suffer at the hands of another who simply didn't understand my hair and its subtle complexities. I realize that I may be engaging in hyperbole here to illustrate my affinity for Roma and his establishment, but anything less would be unjust.
Before there was Roma there was Chris, at (Queen and Woodbine) who will have a special place in my heart, as he was the first to shown my golden locks at the age of three, I continued to frequent Chris' until he retired in 2000. From 2000-2002 I entered the "dark age." being the loyal patron that I was I decided to give Chris 2 a shot, as he had taken over the establishment from Chris 1, but Chris 1 he was not. It's not my intent to sully ones reputation on here, so I will spare details, but needless to say I was in dire need of divine intervention, which came in the form of Roma.
As the old adage goes one can expect two things in life, "death and taxes," yet if you get barbered at Roma's there are four. A fantastic straight razor shave and a 5 minute shoulder massage. The former is pretty self explanatory, yet in the latter Roma places a pulsating glove upon his hand and presses down on ones shoulder blades, from left to right. I initially found this strange, but after several times in the salon and witnessing this performed on countless others, it became not only an expected part of his services, but essential to the overall Roma' experience.
Oh ya, the man cuts a decent head of hair too.
