I love this library. I've been to quite a few of the Cuyahoga County library branches over the years and I easily prefer Lakewood Public Library.
This library is open every day from 9am to 9pm (Sunday 1pm to 9pm). There are two branches - one on Detroit Avenue and one on Madison Avenue.
The main branch on Detroit has all kinds of programs for children, teens, families and adults. Literary speakers and misc. other speakers. Several years ago I nerded out and saw a fascinating lecture about Carnegie libraries (there were 106 in Ohio alone). Regular movie viewings. Live music. A small farmers market on Thursdays on the front porch during the summer. LPL has a pretty steady calendar of events and offers something for everyone.
They have a ton of DVDs, cds, etc. upstairs. Good magazine selection and it's pretty rare that LPL doesn't have a book I am looking for. You can go online and put a hold on a book or other item you want if it isn't available, and they'll email you when it's available to be picked up. They also email you 3 days before your items are due with a reminder. LPL offers Mango Languages in the event you want to learn a new language. You can download free ebooks, digital audiobooks, and streaming/downloading video as well.
LPL is a great community resource. I regularly recommend it to people. I also highly recommend using the library in general - especially if you're new to an area or on a budget.
Their online system is a little wonky and leaves a lot to be desired, but it works.
