| - One star for cheap drinks, one star for the fact that I went for a private party, rather than the theme nights which do sound fun.
When I arrived I had no idea I'd arrived, until I spotted a vertical sign washed over in yellow paint like the place was out of business, yet as I could still read the faint white words "The Boat" beneath, I hesitantly entered. To my surprise the door was open, not locked and boarded with 2x4s.
I should mention at this point that I'm a divey bar lover. Last night I discovered I have a line, and The Boat crossed (sailed past?) it. The inside is musty, smells faintly of pee and years of spilt drinks on carpets that have never been steam cleaned. The walls do in fact make you feel like you're in the hull of a ship, but the interior is more Royal Canadian Legion circa 1971 than ship-worthy. After half an hour or so, my nose adjusted to the smell and the $4.50 beers settled into my system. I'm interested to know what a regular night here might look like and the crowd it would draw (admittedly, I don't see Hipsters hanging out here).
