  • WHAM, BAM, THANK YOU MA'AM! That's how I feel about my experience at Lavender's Day Spa. My friend and I each had a bikini waxing appointment, one right after the other (sorry if that's too much info for ya...). The appointments were in 15 minute time slots, but I think we were both done within 10 minutes total. The esthetician was so-so. I don't have any hair where it used to be, so she's good to go there, but she didn't really ask what I wanted. When you have a complete stranger workin' in your nether regions, you'd like to feel comfortable and at ease with them. That didn't really happen here. Also, while she wasn't mean or completely cold and unfriendly, she just had the attitude of get 'em in, rip it off, and send 'em out. They way she got us in and out reminds me of those Visa or MasterCard TV commercials where 500 customers are served in about 1 minute all because they can swipe their card over a reader machine while still staying in-stride. My biggest gripe is that I wanted to use up a gift card I had and then put the remaining balance on my debit card. I told her to put $25 on the gift card and the rest on my debit. First, she asked me if the gift card was debit or credit. Lemme just say that I don't work a job where I know whether gift cards get ran as a debit or credit. I thought it would either say it on the card or she would know since I'm guessing people use gift cards all of the time. She went to ask someone else in the back and came back saying that I needed to know the exact amount that was on the card because it will get declined if there isn't as much as I think there is. I told her (for the second time) that it was a $25 gift card that I had not used at all. She then suggested that there should be a number on the card that I could call to find out how much was on the card. I told her for a third time that I had not used it yet. She then re-suggested that I call the number on the card to find out the balance. [Note: This exchange really irritated me b/c I know the fault lies with the credit card companies for having to know the exact amount on gift cards--a real nightmare that causes post-its to be stuck to all of my gift cards rendering their remaining balances--but I have encountered many-a-salesperson who has made the call just out of the kindness of their heart and desire to deliver great customer service.] [Second Note: What irritated me even more is that I didn't even need to call the number b/c the card had never been used!] Needless to say, I had her put it all on my debit card and will use the gift card at an establishment with more competent cashiers. So after a whirlwind waxing experience and gift card debacle with the cashier, I'll think twice about getting waxing services here unless I'm in a hurry in which case the wham, bam, thank you ma'am service would come in handy. However, they do have $39 1-hour Swedish massages for first time clients which I have heard are very good. The Surprise location offers the same promo. Happy waxing!
