  • I took Muffin, Killer and his girl to The Yard mid-week for dinner. Got there just before the evening rush. There was a little confusion getting us seated. (It's amazing how important those first few minutes are to set the tone for the whole evening.) The atmosphere was a little dark and loud. Not a to of personality. Then we got to the food. We ordered Poutine for an appetizer. I am not sure how they make their fries, but they are delicious. Think Steak Fry mates with Curly Fry. The Stout Gravy was perfectly seasoned and left you with a touch of pepper taste. They used a cheese sauce instead of actual curds which was a little disappointing, but the rest of the dish made up for it. Muffin and I decided to split 2 sandwiches since everything sounded so good. The Jerk did a great job of balancing all of the different flavors (Jerk Pork, Peach Chutney, Slaw) though now looking at the menu, I seemed to have missed the plantains. I had the Young Cheezy. The Chorizo was tasty and not too greasy. I think I could have done without the Hash, the texture kind of screwed up an otherwise great sandwich. Both plates came with more of those spectacular fries and a small bowl of Tomato Soup (The tomato soup, with it's hint of basil left me wondering how they got it to taste like the essence of summertime beefsteak tomatoes.) Killer pronounced his Mac Attack as yummy. High praise indeed from him. He even made a solid attempt to eat it all. Finally, against my better judgement we ordered "Cause We Got High" as dessert. We were all full, but how do you pass up a Peanut Butter, Banana, Nutella Sandwich that is deep-fried and covered with Toasted Marshmallow Fluff? When it came to the table, I suddenly understood why gluttony is a sin. You could feel how wrong it was to eat this down to your bones. That didn't stop us from devouring it all however. All in all, the food was awesome and the service had a few kinks, that a little more direction and focus should be able to iron out.
